
Mariam Naoum is a prominent screenwriter known for her bold and socially conscious storytelling. A graduate of The Higher Institute of Cinema in Cairo, she has built a career centered on narratives that explore the lives of marginalised communities, with a particular focus on women’s issues and social justice. Her body of work spans television, film, and documentary, and is widely recognised for its emotional depth, realism, and progressive perspective.
In 2016, Naoum founded Sard Writers’ Room, a pioneering platform dedicated to developing original Arabic-language screenplays for both film and television. Sard also mentors emerging writers through a structured grants programme that supports the development of feature-length scripts. Naoum is celebrated for her commitment to elevating Arabic storytelling and creating space for new voices in the region’s screen industries.
